Massage Descriptions
Western Massage Approaches:
The massage practice of Annelies includes the western modalities of Swedish Esalen, Foot Reflexology and Advanced Deep Tissue Massage. These methods help to alleviate chronic muscular pain, promote relaxation and the circulation of fluids. It leaves a person feeling refreshed and relaxed.
Deep Tissue and Myofascial Release:
Deep Tissue and Myofascial Release is used for injury rehabilition and to bring awareness to structural balance. Deep Tissue contacts the sub-layer of musculature and connective tissue, or fascia, that expands through out the body. It helps to soften stagnant, inflexible muscle tissue, bringing blood and breath back into areas of chronic pain, injury and arthritis. The technique involves deep and slow penetration to these sub-layers using fingers, knuckles, forarms and elbow. It is done respectfully slow, allowing the body to stay relaxed. The pressure applied is only as deep as the client is willing. The focus is to reintegrate the injured area back into harmony with the entire body. This training is coming from the instruction of Steven O'Dwyer as well as Somatic Movement Therapy Training with Martha Eddy and Embodyoga training with Patty Townsend. Sessions run from 30 minutes to 90 minutes.
Chinese Amma Massage:
Amma Massage originated 5,000 years ago in ancient China. It has been used by physicians of traditional Chinese medicine for centuries because of its effectiveness to promote optimal balance and health. The Amma technique involves pressing, stroking, stretching and holding at acupuncture points along the body's fourteen major meridians (energy channels aligned with the wellbeing and function of the organs). When massaged and aligned, the meridian channels promote the clear flow of blood, lymph and energy. Stagnation breaks down and our inherent aliveness is restored. Amma massage uses no oils, while the client is typically draped on the table. Amma is an extremely flexible style of massage suitable for a wide variety of client needs. Typically a session is one hour long.
Japanese Zen Shiatsu Massage:
Zen Shiatsu is a finger pressure technique utilizing traditional acupuncture points. Shiatsu concentrates on unblocking the flow of life energy and restoring balance in the meridians (energy channels running up and down the body) and organs in order to promote self healing. The client lies on the floor, fully clothed, while being moved slowly by the practitioner in and out of gentle stretches and receiving sustained pressure with fingers, hand, elbow, or knee along the channels. Shiatsu opens the body to greater relaxation and nourishes a sense of 'flow' as a balanced whole. The benefits of shiatsu include pain relief and a strengthening of the body's resistance to disease and disorder. Typically a session is 1 and 1/2 hours. It can be done in an hour.
